Accidental Death and Dismemberment

If you have an accident while you’re an Active Member and it costs you your sight, a limb or even your life within 90 days of the accident, your beneficiary or you may be entitled to Accidental Death and Dismemberment (AD&D) benefits.

Only losses that are caused by an accident are covered. If your injury was self-inflicted — even unintentionally — or happened while you were on military duty, as a result of an act of war or participating in a felony, it’s not covered. Losses caused by illness or disease, or even a medical or surgical accident aren’t covered. And bacterial infections will only be covered if they result from an accident.

Your AD&D benefit may be provided through the Health Fund or from an insurance company. If an insurance company provides it the terms of the insurance company policy also apply. As of July 1, 2001 ULLICO is the provider of AD&D benefits to Health Fund members.

If more than one type of loss is suffered in one accident, only one benefit — the greatest loss amount — will be paid.
